DIY Honey Respiratory Syrup

I randomly stumbled upon a DIY Syrup for respiratory support on YouTube last fall/winter and have been making it ever since, RaddestMom.  I have changed up the recipe a few times and have stuck with the one I will share with all of you.  I did not purposely deviate from Raddeset Mom recipe, as it is quiet fantastic; Other than, I love to cook, creating meals with a twist to make them my own. Give Raddest moms a try too, you will not be disappointed.

Three ingredients is all you need!!! Raw Organic Honey, Organic Coconut Oil and Lemon! You can use either 6 drops of Lemon Essential Oil (make sure your lemon essential oil is labeled as ingestiable) or you can squeeze a fresh lemon. DO NOT USE THE ALREADY SQUEEZED LEMON JUICE FROM A GROCERY STORE.

Raw Oragnic Honey has many health benefits and has been used for generations in sootheing the symptoms of colds and allergeis.  It has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties and chocked full of antioxidants that boost the immune system. The benefits do not stop there. The internet is full of sites and articles praising Raw Honey! Making it easy to see why Raw Honey has been a staple in households long before our time.

Organic Coconut Oil (I am using Virgin Fresh Pressed) has an abundance of health benefits, like honey does. You can find coconut oil being readily used in products for hair, skin, diet and overall well being. Coconut oil has been known to boost the immune system and has anti-microbial, antioxidnat, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Making it a great combo with the honey for this cough syrup, and acts as a thickening agent.

Lemons are rich in Vitamin C! A must when battling cold! Lemons can boost the immune system and help fight off respiratory issues.

Lemon Essential Oil is great for its ability to support respitatory function and naturally cleansing your body of impurities.

1/2 cup Raw Oragnic Honey

4 tablespoons Organic Coconut Oil

6 drops Lemon Essential Oil or 1/2 a fresh squeezed lemon

In a small sauce pan, over low heat, combine the honey and coconut oil.

Stirring often, allow the coconut oil to melt. DO NOT LET IT BOIL!

After the Coconut oil has completelty melted, remove from the heat and stir in either your 6 drops of Lemon Essential Oil or 1/2 a fresh squeezed lemon. Allow the mxiture to cool for 20-25 minutes and pour into an 8oz mason jar with lid (or any sealing glass container). You may see the coconut oil start to seperate and settle at the top, you will want to stir the mixutre in the glass jar for 2-3 minutes until the ingredients stop seperating and it starts to thicken up. If needed you can set in the fridge for 5 minutes to help cool it down faster. DO NOT FORGET you stuck it in the fridge. It is crucial to make sure the honey and coconut oil mix completely together.

Ways to use:  Take (1) spoonful of the cough syrup (tablespoon amount) to help soothe a cold or sore thoart, Make it into a tea by adding (1) tablespoon to 8oz of hot water, or If you have a favorite tea you like to drink when you have a cough, cold, sore throat, you can just add 1 tablespoon of the cough sryup to your tea!
